THE ADVENTURE OF A FRIENDSHIP

They would say goodbye and leave me, deceived with the idea that they were also going to school. I did. They were my brother, “Rami”, and my friend, Zoé. They would change clothes and wander the streets of Havana. And they kept doing it even much later, in Paris, Madrid, Tenerife, Andalusia.
Their friendship was a complicity that remained inalterable until the end.
He greatly enjoyed painting her. Was always preparing a gift for her birthdays, for Christmas, if he went to Paris to see her or if she went to visit him in Tenerife. Pretexts. He was always thinking of her and could recognize her, suffering or happy. The energy of his magic transformed her into a subtle poetess, an imperial Chinese lady or a geisha, a Cuban expectantly waiting on her novel or a surreal maid of honor. Also in a broken woman or posing, at nineteen years of age, in front of a blue background with the bow of passion circling her neck and Marlene Dietrich’s ruby bracelets, recreating and pampering her with his paintbrushes, inventing her for both of them.
When they worked together illustrating their childhood stories, they were creating for Luna, their common angel. They prepared his exhibitions in Paris and he listened attentively to her points of views and her advice, he allowed her to act: coincidences went in the same direction. She was his chosen sister.
